Dental Examination and Consultation

Following a concise general and dental history an oral examination involves checking the condition, strength, stability and wear of the teeth. Jaw function, bite and gum condition are taken into consideration. X-rays or other tests may be required at this stage. The general appearance, shade and position of the teeth are also assessed.

Oral Hygienist

Hygiene and diet are key factors to healthy teeth. Generally every six months the teeth require thorough dental cleaning to remove plaque, calculus and staining.

Fluoride Application

Fluoride is used as a preventative measure in teeth susceptible to decay.

Fillings

Teeth with cavities require filling. This is done with the conventional filling material amalgam. Tooth coloured (or white) filling material is also used. The later are more favoured in suitable situations.

Extraction of Teeth

Teeth are removed when the situation of the tooth is gone beyond repair.

Dental Implants

Dental Implants are placed to restore extracted or missing teeth.

Implant Denture

When multiple teeth are missing dental implants are placed. An overdenture is provided to replace the lost tooth.

Treatment of Ageing

This involves many aspects of care. General wellbeing or health. Manual dexterity to maintain oral health. Today teeth survive all of many people’s living life.

Dentures

Good function and appearance of a denture is regarded as a high honour in our office.

Composite Build up of Teeth

Teeth that show wear can be restored with bonded white filling (composite). This restores height to teeth and function to the mouth.

Veneers are the facial reduction of a tooth surface which is replaced with a thin porcelain veneer (or front) suitable for discoloured and mildly chipped teeth.

Crowns

Crowns are the total replacement of a tooth while the root is retained. There are a number of crown types and qualities.

Bridges

Bridges are a number of missing teeth replaced with fixed crowns and connectors.

Tooth Whitening

Tooth Whitening is a very popular treatment this decade. Tooth assessment first is needed for shade discolouration and strength. Gum health is also vital.

We have two systems:

• “ZOOM” Light in the surgery – for more information go to www.zoomnow.com

  • Home kit – slim whitening trays are made to apply the gel to the tooth surfaces.

Orthodontics in Six Months

In our office we use the INMAN System. This involves wearing a removable dental brace for 20 hours per day. It is suitable for adults only with potential to give a pleasant, satisfactory tooth alignment. Results are generally achieved between three to six months.

Smile Design

Smile Design can be done prior to treatment either by discussion, mock up of teeth, wax up to mimic final appearance of teeth or via computer aided design.

Sports Gum Shield

A sports gum shield worn over the upper teeth for contact sport is essential. These are accurately constructed from a mould of the mouth. Team, County or National colours and identification can be incorporated into the material.

Bite Appliance

Bite Appliance is a plastic appliance worn over the teeth to relieve bite pressure and give ease and alignment in jaw pain/dysfunction. This appliance can be used in case of tooth grinding and worn teeth.

Digital X-Ray

Computer generated x-rays give information on teeth to aid diagnosis. The exposure to radiation is only 10% of what the conventional process style x-ray is.
